The benefits of intentionally connecting with nature have been realized for thousands of years. The purposeful practice of nature immersion was formalized in the 1980’s in Japan, referred to as Shinrin Yoku. The history of this is very interesting! Other common names for Nurtured by Nature™ are forest therapy, nature immersion, and forest bathing.
A Nurtured by Nature™ practice is the most accessible, affordable, relatable, understandable, and applicable wellness practice available to us today! This practice can be enjoyed by all, no matter age, physical capability, emotional state, or spiritual belief.
Similar to all modalities of wellness and self-care (ie: yoga, meditation, exercise, diet, etc.) Nurtured by Nature™ is considered a practice….the actual application of an idea, and repeatedly exercising the activity to improve or maintain one’s proficiency. The best results are realized when we are led by a certified Nurtured by Nature™ Guide, proving prompts, gentle suggestions, and direction for each practice. As one becomes more proficient, comfortable, and habitual with their practice, your Nurtured by Nature™ practice can be self-guided.
Typically, practices are held as a class in an outdoor space. These locations can be in a park, a meadow, a forest, or woods, or even a backyard. If weather or other circumstances do not allow for outdoor sessions, indoor practices can be similarly beneficial with some creative methods of bringing the outside in.
The average Nurtured by Nature™ practice is about sixty minutes. Once one has learned the steps of a full Nurtured by Nature™ practice, the length of one’s practice can be adjusted. A short ten minute practice can be a great ‘pick me up’ during a busy day; An extended three hour practice can provide immense stress relief.
The benefits of intentional immersion into nature and full engagement of one’s senses have been scientifically proven over and over. Something so (seemingly) simple can improve so many aspects of our health naturally….
